Thoracic pain is associated with the upper back pain which occurs between low back and bottom of the neck. The upper portion of the body of human beings is designed in such a manner that it looks like a thoracic cage round heart, liver and lungs. Our upper portion of the body is made up of ligaments, tendons, muscles and bones which help in maintaining the balance of the body and even for balancing head movement. For example, our normal activities like posture movement and walk. Our upper portion of the back consists of 7 vertebrae and it is divided by intervertebral discs. Intervertebral discs which makes sure that it is not rubbing and keeping them smooth as well as maintaining the friction free movement. As compared to the other parts of body it is less flexible in movement. The other parts such as tendons, ligaments and muscles are flexible part of the back that makes it possible for upper portion to move. The tendons attach the muscles and the bones while the ligaments link the bones with the help of strong band of tissues. Muscles are responsible for providing all the strength essential for the activity and movement. All these three portions of the upper back are combined together to control the function of hyperextend, hyperflex as well as twisting.

There are certain reasons due to which back pain occurs such as infections, injuries as well as overuse of muscles. Sometimes sprained muscles become the reason of pain which makes person uncomfortable even in resting position as well as in any movement. Basically muscles are active even when you are relaxing. Most common reason of the upper back pain is because of the ruptured or herniated disc in cervical spine. The intervertebral disc which is placed between 2 vertebrae swells up due to which it is damaged. Beside this it slows down the movements which become reason of upper back pain.
